Terms

LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability)
The standard that lets external learning tools plug into an LMS without a custom integration per tool.
Used in: EdTech capabilities and the LMS–SIS Integration guide.
SIS integration (Student Information System)
Keeping enrollment, roster and grade data synchronized between a Student Information System and an LMS.
Used in: EdTech's LMS–SIS and LTI integration capability.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
US law governing student education-record privacy. Governs what an AI student-support tool may access and retain.
Used in: FERPA-aware data boundaries across EdTech content, and the FERPA-Safe AI guide.
WCAG 2.2 AA
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, Level AA — always framed as a delivery target, never a claimed certification.
Used in: The accessibility target stated across all three industry pages.
Section 508
The US federal accessibility requirement, paired with WCAG 2.2 AA specifically on Government work.
Used in: Government Technology page — "Section 508 / WCAG 2.2 AA as delivery target."
Interoperability
The ability of separate systems to exchange and use data correctly. Specific standards are named only where ABM has verified experience.
Used in: HealthTech's systems-integration capability.
Responsible AI
AI work governed by documented purpose, human oversight of consequential outputs, and no training on client data without written agreement — a stated practice, not a compliance certification.
Used in: The Trust page and the FERPA-Safe AI guide.
SSO (Single Sign-On)
Letting a user authenticate once and access multiple connected systems (e.g. an LMS and a SIS) without logging in separately to each.
Used in: The LMS–SIS Integration guide.
SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language)
A common protocol for exchanging authentication data between an identity provider and a service, frequently how SSO is implemented in institutional/enterprise settings.
Used in: The LMS–SIS Integration guide.
IAM (Identity and Access Management)
The broader practice of managing who can access which systems and data, typically encompassing SSO/SAML as implementation mechanisms.
Used in: The LMS–SIS Integration guide.
